In It to Win It
As a premier gaming and entertainment destination, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa has a lot to offer to recreate that Vegas feel with over 2,400 e-games, 34 table games and 14 poker options.
Love the idea of hitting the Las Vegas Strip, but the cost of airfare and hotel space isn’t in your budget? We hear you. Spring is in the air, but so is tax day, and you want to budget your fun and vacation time with that possible IRS payment due April 15 in mind. So, we’ve got the perfect suggestion for a way to have a budget-friendly time that gives you a Vegas, rock ‘n’ roll feel here in Tulsa.
We’re talking, of course, about the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa, located conveniently right off Interstate 44 in Catoosa. As a premier gaming and entertainment destination, Hard Rock has a lot to offer to recreate the feel of The Hangover, without the price tag. (Maybe without the hangover, too, but that’s up to you.)
The gaming available at Hard Rock is impressive, to say the least. Gaming manager Lee Egdorf shared about what the Hard Rock has to offer to those who love the bling, the lights, the clanging and ringing of slot machines, as well as those who can’t wait to live it up at the table games like a high roller.
“We have over 2,400 e-games [electronic slot games], over 1,000 penny machines, up to three $100 machines,” says Egdorf. “There’s a game for any budget.” There are also 34 table games, and 14 poker games to choose from, giving visitors plenty of choices depending on what they like best.
Among the slot machines are hundreds of styles and games to play, which means that whatever you like to play, you’ll probably find it on the Hard Rock’s casino floor. They make sure to offer the popular statewide progressive games, standalone games, old favorites and new ones, to fit every taste. “It’s kind of like a grocery store,” says Egdorf. “You’ve got milk and bread, and there’s specialty items.”
The statewide progressive e-games are played in just about every casino in Oklahoma, increasing in jackpots everywhere until someone hits for a payout. Wheel of Fortune, Harley-Davidson and other similar progressives are very popular, and Hard Rock offers them all.
If you are looking for the newest games on the market, Hard Rock is a great place to visit regularly. “We’re often first to market on new games,” says Egdorf. But of course, they also have the tried-and-true games that everyone has loved for years, like Mr. Money Bags, Hot Red Ruby and The Simpsons.
Other popular electronic games you might want to try out are the Superball Lotto, video poker, The Walking Dead, The Big Bang Theory, and other pop culture style games that feature video clips from their TV shows as part of the fun. And Hard Rock pays attention to what customers like. “We got Elvira and Ghostbusters just for Halloween,” says Egdorf, “but they were so popular, we kept them.”
And with true Hard Rock style, some of the games tie into the music scene in unusual ways. “The ZZ Tops are signed by ZZ Top,” says Egdorf, who explains that the musicians signed all their e-games when they visited The Joint: Tulsa to play a concert. “That’s something you only get here,” he says. Rock ‘n’ roll forever, right?
For those who visit the casino on a regular basis, Hard Rock is proud to offer a players club with rewards for regular, repeat visitors. “Our players club is one of the best around,” says Egdorf. “It’s free to join. When you sign up, you are vinyl [the first tier], and to get to gold [the second tier] is really easy because it’s only 200 slot points, two hours of table play or two hours of poker play to get there.” The players club offers great rewards too, like a birthday gift card or free play, retail and food discounts, and more.
Among the weekly gaming features that customers can count on are Rockin’ Tuesdays and Payday Thursdays, both fun and popular with regulars.
On Rockin’ Tuesdays, members of the players club can show their One Star Rewards cards to redeem a coupon for The Buffet that’s either for half-off or two-for-one, their choice. There’s also a special kiosk game players club members can play to become eligible for different amounts of rewards play, ranging from $5 to $5,000.
On Payday Thursdays, guests can play a special kiosk game where they can win rewards play and have a chance to win $10,000. It’s a lot of fun, says Egdorf, and people love it.
Though there’s a popular misconception that casino games never pay off, it’s not true. They can pay off big time, and Hard Rock is happy to make those payoffs when they happen. “We paid one Wheel of Fortune winner over $600,000 last year,” says Egdorf. “I want my regular customers to be the ones who hit.”
Another popular misconception that Egdorf is happy to dispel is the idea that with casino gaming comes the inevitable cloud of cigarette smoke. That’s not true either, especially at the Hard Rock Tulsa, which is committed to offering a serious, luxurious, completely non-smoking gaming area for those who don’t smoke.
“I don’t smoke,” says Egdorf, “so I’m always really interested when I go someplace and they have a non-smoking section. At Hard Rock, when you park in the parking garage and come in the door, you’re not walking through a smoking section.”
The non-smoking area of the Hard Rock is expansive too. “We have the largest non-smoking section of any that I know of in the state,” Egdorf says. “We cater to this need. So, our non-smoking section is actually an entire building, a very large area, including the hotel, restaurants and even the bar. I don’t know of another non-smoking sports bar in the area.” This smoke-free area offers not just electronic slots but also many table games, to give visitors a wide choice of fun to choose from.
Of course, Hard Rock visitors can also enjoy other events along with gaming, like a visit to the resort’s many restaurants, pool, spa and concerts at The Joint: Tulsa.
