Merritt’s Bakery is the brainchild of Larry Merritt, a man with a lot of love for sweet treats. He opened the first bakery location in 1979, and he and his family have been working hard ever since to make this one of the best bakery chains in town. Where else can you get an individual Boston cream pie or Black Forest cake? In addition to a wide selection of homemade cookies and pastries, Merritt’s excels in making single-sized baked goods. That means you can stop in to treat yourself to cake anytime. Choices for single selections include Italian crème, chocolate, carrot, red velvet, white chocolate, pineapple upside-down cake, tiramisu and cheesecake. If you want a whole cake, Merritt’s offers the usual favorites as well as some creations you won’t find elsewhere — coconut cake, Coke cake, Key lime cheesecake, rum cake, red velvet cake, German chocolate and several others. They also make pastry party trays, as well as holiday specialties.
